How to consider packaging and conditions of use when choosing a label

The first step to the right label is understanding which surface and conditions your product will live with.

A label is much more than an artwork file. Looking good on the shelf matters, but so does staying in place and legible throughout the product's life. Answering a few basic questions before choosing a label makes the job easier.

1. Which surface will the label go on?

Glass, carton, rigid plastic or a squeezable tube – every surface interacts differently with a label. Whether it is flat or curved directly affects size and material.

2. Where will the product be stored and used?

Fridge, bathroom, warehouse or outdoors… Humidity, temperature changes and frequent handling can decide between paper and film.

3. What information will the label carry?

Product name, ingredients, warnings and barcode need to fit neatly into a limited space. The more information there is, the more design and size must be considered together for legibility.

4. What look are you aiming for?

Natural, minimal, premium or eye-catching… The feeling you want guides the choice of material and finishing.
